The American Red Cross provides federally mandated emergency reporting services and access to Military Aid Societies for financial assistance in emergency situations. This helps strengthen the morale of military personnel and their families. The Red Cross also provides accurate reports to military members away from home, and provides military authorities with verified information so they can make informative decisions that affect service members and their command.
Armed Forces Emergency Services (AFES) serves:
- Active duty and retired members of all branches of the Armed Forces
- Cadets and midshipmen of the Service academies
- ROTC members of all branches of service during their 14 day annual training
- Fleet Reserve and Fleet Marine Corps Reserve
- Commissioned Officers of the Public Health Service
- Commissioned Officers of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
- Army National Guard and the Air National Guard during active duty status
- Coast Guard
- U.S. Merchant Marines
- Department of Defense (DOD) civilians who are stationed overseas

- Notification and request for presence due to death and illness
- Health and Welfare reports
- Call home messages
- Birth announcements for birth of serviceman's child
- Leave extension requests

AFES has opportunities for volunteers in the Chapter Office, Monday thru Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Learn policies and procedures and become a weekend or after hours volunteer caseworker. Become an important link in the communications between military members away from home and their loved ones.
