Adult CPR with First Aid (6½-hrs)
Learn to treat victims of accidental injuries or sudden illness who need immediate care.

Infant and Child CPR with First Aid (7½-hrs)
Learn to treat common injuries among children from birth to 8 years old. Learn accident prevention and safety tips, and how to perform the life-saving skills of rescue breathing, one-rescue CPR and first aid for choking (Spanish language classes available).

Adult, Infant and Child CPR (7-hrs)
Learn the correct responses to cardiac and respiratory emergencies of adults, infants and children. Also covers healthful living and information on making your home a safer place.

Adult CPR with First Aid and AED (8-hrs)
Learn to treat victims of accidental injuries or sudden illnesses who need immediate care. Includes Adult CPR and how to use Automated External Defibrillator (AED) as a citizen responder.

Adult, Infant and Child CPR with First Aid (10-hrs)
Learn to recognize and care for life-threatening emergencies in adults, infants and children such respiratory and cardiac problems, sudden illnesses and injuries.

First Aid (without CPR) (4-hrs)
Learn to recognize and to care for victims of injury or sudden illness.

Adult CPR with AED (4½-hrs)
Learn to identify and care for adults who are experiencing breathing emergencies, heart attacks or cardiac arrest. Learn use of the EMS system and information on healthy lifestyles and heart disease prevention. Includes training on how to recognize when defibrillation is appropriate, and how defibrillation works and steps for using the AED equipment.

CPR for the Professional Rescuer (with AED) (10-hrs)
Course teaches the professional rescuer to perform two-person CPR, how to use breathing devices and steps for minimizing the risks of disease transmission in emergency situations. Participants will also be trained on the Automated External Defibrillation (AED) equipment to help sustain life before medical help arrives.

Babysitters' Training (8-hrs)
Learn how to make good, responsible decisions and keep children in your care safe. Includes how to handle emergency or illness; choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games; and handle bedtime issues effectively. Participants need to bring brown bag lunch

HIV/AIDS Starter Facts (4-hrs)
This course provides individuals with a solid knowledge base of HIV and AIDS. It also provides the skills and information to separate facts from misinformation and opinions. Candidates who have HIV education experience will have the option to test out of the Starter Facts course. Prerequisite: Students must be seventeen years of age at the completion of this course.

HIV/AIDS Facts Practice (4-hrs)
This course helps participants develop a common base knowledge and skills for sharing information about HIV and AIDS. Prerequisite: HIV/AIDS Starter Facts Certificate issued sometime during the last 12 months.

Basic HIV/AIDS Fundamentals
Instructor Class: (16-hrs)

This course provides individuals with a solid knowledge base of HIV and AIDS. It also provides the skills and information to separate facts from misinformation and opinions. Candidates who have HIV education experience will have the option to test out of the Starter Facts course. Prerequisite: Students must be seventeen years of age at the completion of this course.

Provides basic information about disaster and its effects outlines the role of agencies in disaster relief, and introduces the participants to the American Red Cross Disaster Services. Prerequisite: for ALL disaster classes.

Disaster Health Service overview (4-hrs)
Describes the Disaster Health Services (DHS) function on local and national disaster and relief operations. Describes the role of nurses in various assignment settings and identifies resources and protocols for providing assistance. Prepares nurses to initiate DHS case management through case studies and group activities. Meets DHS training requirement for promotion to supervisor in other functions. Prerequisites: Into to Disaster Services.

Disaster Health Services Simulation (8-hrs)
Scenarios and case studies that Disaster Health Services (DHS) workers may encounter on typical disaster relief operations in shelters and case work centers. Participants practice the skills, problem-solving techniques and use of resource materials to manage the various challenges presented. Participation limited to nurses and other DHS staff. Prerequisites: Intro to Disaster Services, Disaster Health Services Overview.

CDE Presenter's Workshop (8-hrs)
Prepares participants to plan for delivery of quality Community Disaster Education presentations by providing background information and support. Information on ways to overcome disaster denial issues to motivate individuals and family disaster preparedness actions. Does not teach platform presentation skills; rather, it focuses on how to choose appropriate messages for target audiences and selecting materials that convey those messages. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Serving the Diverse Community (???-hrs)
Designed to assist all service providers in meeting the needs of the changing populations in the communities the American Red Cross serves. Prerequisites: Intro to Disaster Services.

Disaster Welfare Inquiry (3-hrs)
Prepares participants to handle Family Well-being Inquires in their local chapters. Participants will learn how to provide effective service, transmit an inquiry to the Family Well-being Inquiry function on disaster relief operation, and conduct follow-up ensure that the inquirer's needs are met.

Damage Assessment (3-hrs)
Prepares workers to obtain and report information about the extent of damage to buildings and property following a disaster and provide operational support on disaster operations. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Emergency Operations Center Workshop (8-hrs)
Prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers to serve as a liaison to represent the Red Cross at an Emergency Operations Center and support the information and coordination process. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Prepare Red Cross employees and volunteers to serve as a liaison to represent the Red Cross at an Emergency Operations Center and support the information and coordination process. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

ERVs: Ready, Set, Roll (Varies)
Participants in this hands-on workshop learn to drive, maintain and use Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicle. A road test is included as part of this training. Prerequisites: Intro to Disaster Services, a valid driver's license. Must pass driver's license background check.

Family Services
Providing Emergency Assistance(8-hrs)

Learn how to meet the emergency needs of individual families following a local disaster. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Mass Care Overview (3-hrs)
Participants will learn how the Red Cross meets immediate food and shelter needs for disaster. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Shelter Operations Simulation (3.5-hrs)
This course provides participants with an opportunity to practice the knowledge and skills needed to run a successful shelter operation. Prerequisites: Intro to Disaster Services, Mass Care Overview, Shelter Operations.

Liaison I (8-hrs)
Prepares participants to build and maintain collaborative relationships which enhance the community's ability to respond to disaster. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Shelter operations Workshop (3-hrs)
Workshop prepares participants to effectively and sensitively manage shelter operations as a team, and to meet the needs of people displaced as a result of a disaster. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Logistics Overview (3-hrs)
Learn how to produce and distribute supplies and materials required for disaster relief operation. Includes training in a warehouse operation, management of vehicles and facility maintenance. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Logistics Simulation (4-hrs)
Simulation training for carrying out the Logistics function described above in the event of a local disaster or as part of a major disaster relief operation. Prerequisites: Intro to Disaster Services, Logistics Overview.

Records and Reports I (8-hrs)
Learn how to process forms, maintain case record files and compile statistics related to a disaster relief operation. Prerequisite: Intro to Disaster Services.

Orientation to International Services (4-hrs)
Overview of International Humanitarian Law, tracing and other international services; highlights Fundamental Principles and reasons for Red Cross involvement. Prerequisite for all Internationals Services courses.

International Humanitarian Law (4-hrs)
Explain legal protections for civilians and others in armed conflict, and the work of Red Cross as a guardian of the Geneva Conventions. Prerequisite: Orientation to International Services.

International Relief and Development (4-hrs)
Covers the role of the American Red Cross in internationals relief, development, information and available resources to respond to community requests. Also cover international delegates, in-kind donations, and how to facilitate the establishment of community-based internationals programs and activities. Prerequisite: Orientation to International Services.

Lifeguarding (28 ¼ hours)
This course teaches the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.
Lifeguarding prerequisites:
  • Minimum age 15.
  • Swim 500 yards continuously, using crawl stroke with rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick and Breastroke.
  • SSwim 20 yards using front crawl or Breaststroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object.

Swim Lessons
Seven levels of swimming instruction help swimmers of all ages develop and refine their skills. Learn a variety of strokes, including the front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and butterfly.

Sports Safety Training (7-hrs)
Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe environment for adult and child athletes while they are participating in sports and, in an emergency, to help sustain life and minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until medical help arrives.
